Women Nationally Active for Christ

Sowing the Seed
Marjorie Workman

Why would a woman leave family behind, log 16000 air miles, deprive herself of sleep, eat strange food, trek miles in the snow—just to give a child a Bible, a toy, and some candy?  The compelling love of Christ is why.

The Joy of Christmas Team, comprised of nine WAC women and two missionaries were privileged to literally place hundreds of Bibles in the hands of Central Asia’s children. These were not your middle class, spoiled by abundance of things children. These were children from the highways and hedges of life spoken of in Luke 14:23. The believers, through Bible Mission, went to the poor, the suffering, the orphaned, and invited them to come.  And come they did, wide eyed, expectant, and dressed in their best. Smiles from ear to ear spread across their faces as they eagerly but patiently waited to receive their gifts—gifts provided through Women Active for Christ groups across America. More than $41,000 was funneled through the Christmas Joy Project and sent to Kazakhstan  ahead of the team to purchase gift items.

Through drama, song, story telling, crafts and visual aids (flipper flappers), the story of Christmas was shared again and again—in churches where the poor had been invited to come, in the TB hospital, AIDS hospital, boarding schools, orphanages, blind association, and even in local homes of severely handicapped.

What kind of harvest will result from the planting of God’s word in this Muslim region of the world? We may never know. We can only claim the promise of Isaiah 55:11 “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
