Master’s Men and WNAC invite couples to a weekend of retreat and renewal. Husbands and wives can enjoy time together and time away while they gain biblical principles and practical advice for “Staying in Love.” Two dates in two different locations offer flexibility.

Identical conferences February 17-19 at the Doubletree Hotel in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and March 23-25 at the Grand Plaza Hotel in Branson, Missouri will feature Brother Joe Grizzle as speaker. Brother Grizzle and his wife Billie not only enjoy a lasting marriage, but have also guided and encouraged countless couples throughout their years of ministry at CrossPointe Free Will Baptist Church of Norman, Oklahoma.

The weekend conferences run Friday evening through Sunday noon and include scheduled sessions, pocketed times for interaction and fellowship, a free afternoon for rest and/or exploring the area, a Saturday night banquet and Sunday morning worship.

Women in the Wolverine State annually collect goods and funds for this tangible ongoing WNAC ministry. Begun in 1962, the closet supplies new household goods, appliances, and gift cards for Free Will Baptist missionary homes, Bible institutes and other mission-related facilities—at no cost. Generous gifts from Women Active for Christ keep the closet stocked and ready for use.

WNAC Director Elizabeth Hodges and husband Eddie, along with FWBIM missionaries Sam and June McVay, welcomed the Michigan guests for the early Saturday unloading. The three couples worked together most of the day, sorting goods and stocking closet shelves. FWBIM missionary Shannon Little joined the group for lunch.

Since the closet’s inception, Michigan women have led the way in this effort. Women in WAC groups throughout the state stockpile items all year long to bring to their annual state meeting. Volunteers load a truck or trailer and make the 10-hour trip to personally deliver the goods. Local WAC groups participating in this year’s effort include Harmony, Comstock, Benton Harbor, North Warren, Central, Woodhaven, Heritage, Rouge, Trinity, Ten Mile, First FWB of Hazel Park, Pontiac, FWB Chapel and Kirby FWB churches, as well as Wolverine District WAC. Estimated value of the recent delivery already totals $14, 049.27, with not all gifts accounted.

Join WNAC, November 15-19, in honoring the ”Jewel Qualities” of home missionary wives during the annual PreThanksgiving Week of Prayer for National Home Missions. The week includes daily opportunities in praise and prayer for women involved in North American church planting and also presents a challenge from the Word to nurture these qualities in our own lives.

The week also builds momentum for FWBHM’s annual Mission: North America Offering the following Sunday (November 21). Women are encouraged to give cheerfully and generously to support this vital ministry.

WNAC and FWBHM jointly provide materials for both personal and local church women’s group use. A free packet is available by mail (one per church group, please) or you may download selective resources.

The called session met in the Conference Room at the Free Will Baptist National Office Building from 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Keith Burden, executive secretary of the National Association of Free Will Baptists, presided at the request of the WNAC Executive Committee. Jack Williams attended as an official observer at the request of Keith Burden.

The Executive Committee scheduled the September 11 session with Mrs. Pugh to clarify misunderstandings that arose following a post-WNAC convention meeting in Oklahoma City on July 21 at which time the Committee asked her to resign as president, citing a continued pattern of overstepping authority, acting outside the bounds of the position of president, and making decisions without Committee approval while appearing to speak for the Committee.

After more than three hours of discussion on Saturday morning, September 11, Mrs. Pugh verbally resigned as president and agreed to write a follow-up letter/email informing WNAC constituents of her resignation.

Executive Director Elizabeth Hodges said, “This has been a difficult time for all of us in WNAC. We need your prayers in the days and weeks ahead as we mend our nets, plan the 2011 convention, and seek the Lord’s direction as we move forward in the ministry of WNAC.”

Delegates to the 75th Convention of WNAC, meeting in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, July 19-20, overwhelmingly approved Elizabeth Hodges as its 6th Executive Director. Mrs. Hodges, in her address to the body, encouraged women to assume roles as “Aarons and Hurs,” coming alongside her and lifting her up in prayer to ensure the success of Women Nationally Active for Christ. Mrs. Hodges officially assumes her position August 1, but throughout the Convention, she assisted the Executive Committee in behind-the-scenes preparations, greeted women at the convention booth area and welcomed interaction from attendees. She is currently seeking prayer partners—at least 12 women from each state where WNAC has a presence—who will commit themselves to daily intercession for her and the WNAC office. She is also enlisting state leaders to assist in compiling a master calendar of all 2010-2011 district and state meetings and events.

Get better acquainted with Elizabeth Hodges and catch her vision for WNAC through a specially prepared interview (pdf download here).

In other business, delegates amended the wording of WNAC’s purpose statement to more clearly define its ministry goals and better resonate with today’s women. WNAC now exists to help women fulfill the Great Commission through their God-designed roles in the home, church, community and world. Delegates approved Cleo Pursell (international) scholarships for four Brazilian women studying in FWB Bible institutes. Delegates also voted to change the current Mary R. Wisehart Student Loan Fund to a scholarship fund and appointed a committee to formulate scholarship guidelines for approval by the 2011 convention body. Download a complete list of WNAC Convention resolutions and recommendations.

The diamond anniversary included times of worship and celebration. A Monday afternoon presentation guided women through three quarters of a century of WNAC. Integrating music, narration, and media, the program also honored several “hidden jewels”—little known yet greatly influential Women Active for Christ.

Missionary speaker Geneva Poole challenged women to “shine as lights in the world” by living a clean and pure life, loving people and sharing the Word.

Anita Scott, WNAC luncheon speaker, expounded on this revised purpose statement as she explored “God-designed roles” in the home, church, community and world. She also recounted her personal near-death encounter with lightning, relating this tragic incident to the convention theme, “Shine!” Over 400 attended the Tuesday midday meal event which several conventioneers described as “the best convention banquet food—ever.”

Attendance at the two-day convention neared 1,000. Plans are already under way for 2011, when the WNAC Convention meets again (July 18-19) in Charlotte, North Carolina.

WNAC announces Elizabeth Hodges of Hendersonville, TN, as nominee for WNAC Executive Director (Executive Secretary-Treasurer).

Elizabeth brings a lifetime of WAC experience to this position. She has served 19 years in the Cumberland District as either President or Vice-President. She has faithfully encouraged her own local WAC to participate in all of our ministry’s projects. Her mother, Mary Belle Creech, an avid WNAC participant and faithful supporter brought up Elizabeth in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord” through WNAC. God used childhood experiences with her daddy, Ronald Creech, former North Carolina’s State Promotional Director, as preparation for her future travels as WNAC’s representative.

Elizabeth is an educator and administrator with 28 years experience in both Christian and public education, working with both children and adults. She graduated in 1976 from Free Will Baptist Bible College. Elizabeth also holds a M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education and Ed.S. in Administration and Supervision. For the past 12 years, she has worked as an elementary school principal.

She is married to Rev. Edward Hodges (Eddie) who pastors Hendersonville FWB Church. They have three grown children: Samuel, Stephen, and Sarah. A stay-at-home mom for many years, Elizabeth reentered the education sector as her children entered school.

God has given her a burden for our women’s ministry. He will continue to give her wisdom as she leads us with fresh vision.
